RAFL Organizational Restructuring for 2010 PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 01 February 2010 17:06

During the off-season the RAFL was working hard in restructuring the league for the 2010 season. "We feel we have added experience and depth throughout the organization." League President Charles McGill was quoted as saying.  The changes start with the addition of two commissioners one for each conference. Long time and former commissioner of the GSFL Tony Baccale will take the reigns for the northern conference and Greg Hall formerly of the EFA/CFA will do the same for the south.  Additionally each conference will now have its own quality control officer. Former GM Erik Tarrats will take over the role in the north and former owner Gary Rice will manage the south.  Lastly, Dottie Baccale will be taking over the duties of both the league treasurer and secretary as she did in the GSFL for 12 seasons. Adam Turkel the former commissioner of the league for the past three seasons will now be responsible for the scheduling. "Adam did a great job for the first three seasons in guiding the RAFL and was instrumental in getting the league off the ground and running smoothly" said Charles McGill.  “As the league scheduling officer he will now be able to focus on his other passion which is coaching football” he added.

The RAFL will be having its annual meeting on Feb 13th. The RAFL is still accepting team applications any teams interested can go to the RAFL home page, click on this application link.

Mariners first to clinch '09 playoff spot PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 24 January 2010 13:55
Linden, NJ -- The Brooklyn Mariners (6-0) came into Linden NJ expecting a battle…….. against the NJ Battle (5-2). But it was not to be as the Mariners thrashed the Battle 34-6 to clinch the RAFL’s Metro North Division. The Mariners, who have only punted once all season, powered their way to the victory behind a powerful offensive line and skilled Backs including the RAFL rushing TD leader #29 Raheem Ridley. QB Anthony Abruzsi leads the Mariners as well with the leagues best passer rating, and was his usual efficient self in the game. The Mariners put up almost 400 yards of offense while the M’s defense shut the Battle down all day, as the Battle struggled for first downs. The Mariners had three possessions in the second half of over 8 minutes each, and controlled the tempo throughout posting 17 first downs through the course of the game.  The Mariners are the first RAFL team in 2009 to secure a playoff birth, and secure a division championship. Now the M’s gear up for the stretch run against four more quality opponents ( NEPA Miners, PW Monarchs, NY Predators, NJ Buccaneers) as they fight for seeding and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
