LINEMEN LEAD THE WAY TO BRAVEHEARTS VICTORY

Roselle, NJ

Playing the opening preseason game of the 2013 season short-handed, it was the stout play of the New Jersey Braveheart Offensive and Defensive lines that lead to a 18-8 victory over the Brooklyn Blue Devils at SylvesterLand field in Roselle, NJ.

With a number of players inactive, two-way lineman Trevor Jackson and Haki Alexander helped the offensive line control the line of scrimmage and allow quarterback Mike Pernell to throw for 260 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Second year receiver Rahdel Savage grabbed four passes for 100 yards a one touchdown.  Rookie wing back Jaquil Jones and veteran Dorryn Simmons notched the other two touchdowns to seal the victory.

The Bravehearts defense, giving up only one touchdown and conversion was led by veteran linebackers Jason Crutchfield and Jeremy Rosa.  Linebacker/Defensive Alex Bartley applied constant pressure to the Blue Devil’s wing-t offense, forcing a number of negative and zero yard plays.

With a number of players out due to injury, there were players who played offense, defense and special teams. After the game, Braveheart captain Dion Johnson summed up his team’s gutsy performance, “Everybody has talent but nobody has heart like the Bravehearts.  Who’s next?!”
