NY, NY- Philadelphia, PA; Today, the Metro Bowl announced it will no longer be running its annual post season tournament which has sent a representative to the USFA/NFE National Championship game for the last three years coming away with two of the three National Champions. But with the end of one era…. comes a new beginning.
Instead of an invitational annual tournament, the Metro Bowl has announced the birth of the new Metro Bowl Football Alliance (MBFA). The alliance will consist of four leagues, RAFL, EFA, IFL, and MAFL. The leagues will hold their usual playoffs…but with a twist. After each leagues respective Championship games, their champions will continue on to see who earns the right as Metro Bowl Champion to represent the collective in Florida for the NFE/USFA Championship game. This year will pit the EFA Champion vs. the IFL Champion and the RAFL Champion vs. the MAFL Champion with the two winners playing in the Metro Bowl Championship game.
The birth of the alliance also signals a change, leagues working together with a common goal. The four leagues will also have league crossover games which will count as regular season games and that process will begin this season. This will allow for some great match ups and local rivalries to take place in a regular need to win regular season environment. To further the strength of the alliance, all four leagues will post scores and news from all of their allies on their individual league pages. While the four leagues will operate as separate entities, they will operate in harmony with common goals and add spice to their own competition.
“It was a no brainer” stated Adam Turkel of the RAFL. “As soon as I spoke to Denny Williams (IFL Commissioner) we clicked and liked it” he stated. “The IFL and EFA were already entering an alliance and it made sense to expand on it” he concluded.
The leagues all state this is a long term deal, and its not expected to end anytime soon. “We’re going to help each other with things outside of football as well” stated IFL member Lorenzo O’Branty. “It should be a great union” he finished.
Stay tuned for more info on the alliance and its members.
